This morning was normal. That’s the part that doesn’t fit.
An accident, a collapse, something the vet couldn’t stop. No decline to adjust to, no last good week, no chance to look at them properly knowing it was the last time. One version of your life stopped mid-sentence.
Sudden loss carries something extra alongside grief — shock, and sometimes trauma. Images that arrive uninvited. Replaying the last hour looking for the moment it could have gone differently. Going to the door at the usual time and knowing while you’re doing it.
If you witnessed it, that’s a separate injury sitting next to the grief, and it responds to different help.
This room is for people who didn’t get to say goodbye. The “if only” loop, the guilt about the last ordinary interaction, and the particular difficulty of grieving something you haven’t had time to believe yet.
You don’t have to describe what happened unless you want to. If you do, please put a line at the top so people can decide whether to read on.
